I have a wooden unit on the wall with 5 down lights in. They are all low voltage gu10 lamps. I wanted to swap them as they are old and have had it now. With led lamps now available is there any need for me to replace the down lights with low voltage or can I buy led lamps to go in normal 240v down lights. The cabinet is not enclosed and the lights are open above the shelf they light up. Just wondered if there was any regulations that state these have to be low voltage? Any help would be greatly appreciated cheers

Thanks mate yeh after I wrote that I thought I was wrong. Would you say these need to be fire rated? There is no enclosure around the lights they are in open air if that's the right way to describe it.

Thanks again

P.S GU10's are not low voltage.
yes they are

only need to be fire rated if going through a fire barrier. and just because its plasterboard does not always mean its specically designed as a fire barrier

I concur,

<250v is low voltage,

though I feel most people think low voltage actually refers to ELV,

which, in the spirit of the general public is a fair assumption, and one that PD was operating on.
