Downlighters

Hi,

Just wondered the best way of marking out downlighters. I heard someone uses a stringline and some use chalk lines but wondered what was the best way.

I'm not asking about setting out to avoid joists just how you mark them out.

I personally wouldn't use a chalk line (it'll make a mess of the ceiling), but I have used string lines, just measuring with a tape and even a laser line (when it had working batteries)

Either chalk line or laser

I won`t use a tape, as you cannot be certain a room is perfectly square down its length.

chalkline if its going to get painted/plastered later. otherwise tape measure / string line

Sorry to sound real thick but how do you use the string line on your own. Simple question .... Wait for the jokers to take the p lol!

temporary screws into something

or if a long line, drill end holes, and string between

Tape measure, piece of String and masking tape as not to take paint off ceiling.

Just buy a laser a lot quicker !!!

If you do use a chalk line only use white chalk as any other colour will come through the paint.
