That's not the point. You should if possible. Using mirrors is bad practice.

the test basically says use rear window. doesnt take into account that not all vehicles have that option. i cant even see out the rear windows in my car

I've used the side mirrors on vans for so long now I tend not to look through the rear window of our car, especially reversing, with that row of head restraints in the way.

Have you tried a booster seat?

Seriously I drive a double cab pickup and can't really see out the back and use mirrors - that doesn't make it right.

How fast do you drive on a quiet motorway in the middle of the night? We all know the 'proper' answer and the 'real' answer

most people learn to drive & take their test in a vehicle with a rear window.

Not many would use a works-type van for their driving test....

or where does the examiner stick his little extra mirror??????
