i know prob not strictly the type of Q this was intended for, but....

my dvd burner has suddenly stopped burning, every disc i put in the pc says is full. cd works fine, plays and burns, dvd plays fine, just suddenly stopped burning. i have even tried another drive but no joy so im thinking its software.?

"i know prob not strictly the type of Q this was intended for"

Wrong Steptoe! It was created for "ANYTHING Computer" related. Dvd burner is Computer related, Mate - So fire away. ;)

A few times this has happened to me too. But when I try several different discs, it eventually works.

I put it down to dodgey blank discs. But yes, It could be software related.

thanks welsh,

Ive tried about 10 different types, including the ones that have worked in the past, all decent name ones too, R- R+ RW , really have no idea.

oh well , guess I'll take it round a mates, he knows a load more about these things than me.

just tot if it was something simple i would look like a noob. (although it prob is something simple if you know how!)

had one that did that, the lazer went faulty and as it was only 6 months old was replaced woohoooo no help to u i know, does it still read discs?

yep mike, still reads CD & DVD, and still burns any kind of CD, but wont burn any sort of DVD at all.

E.mailed DELL(i know, but cheap and cheerful!) and they sent me a new one out FOC, newer model drive too, but exactly the same problem.

just feel like giving up and buying a MAC,

anyone selling one for

That was good of them Albert.

It surely has to be a software issue?

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers?

ok heres a shot in the dark ,have u got nero ? if not get a copy of somone and install it,that will take control of your cd burner in place of the drivers and burn the projects for you , if that doesnt work then a mac it is. :D

Certainly sounds like drivers problem...

Mike's suggestion is good - go for it. Out of interest though, what s/w have you been using and what were you trying to burn?

If you need any freeware dvd rip or burning type s/w tools, then www.videohelp.com is a good place to be. Look under tools:)

yep, sure was, i know DELL get a dodgy press, but been more than decent to me for the performance i need, and price is cheap enough.

dont have nero, just what came on the computer and one i downloaded.

(like i said, PCs and me not good mix)

i know 1 of them is roxio, which never worked properly!

I'll have a try at that link, thanks.

TBH was trying to make a couple of 'back up' copies of discs i had previously done.

just keeps telling me the disc is full as soon as i put it in drive, even without even trying to do anything, but there is nothing to read if i try and open it.

wont even let me burn music to a DVD anymore.!

is nero on the link, or any ideas where to find it? no crazy prices to buy please, i only use it very occasionly but is annoying now i dont have it. :(

well i could talk u thru how to aquire it for a fee of nada but that means messing about with keygens and a bit of time . ill see if i can organise a copy 4 ya if u like ,will have to discuss how to get it to ya ,try the other way 1st tho if u wish ;)

Just downloaded imgburn from http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ImgBurn

Nero is not free unfortunately. I've never used it anyway, apart from converting some vinyl to cd. I use an old "dvddecrypter" to rip stuff and burn, along with dvdshrink to resize etc.

But this looks ok. It's only about 1.8Mb. There's some reasonable guides on how to use it aswell.

Depends what you want to do with it, but to assemble files of just about any sort into an image file, or burn an image or files to cd or dvd etc. It has an easy option.

Give it a whirl, cant do any harm. If you dont get on with it, just uninstall it again:)

Apologies - confused a few with this one I guess. Perhaps when I get a chance I'll put a useful how to rip dvds guide in plain english on here. For backing up purposes only of course;)

Hope you got it working eventually Albert...

Nero 7 does it all for you shrinks it and puts it ever so nicely onto one of those shiny lil lp looking thingies .. its what i use and it works well ...... :p

Only gives u basic burning programme tho with the burner , think his burner is ok just the programme thats shagged ...
