Hi

In fear of being struck down an "Unfriendly posts" or being told that I'm possibly about to commit fraud - i'll keep this brief.

I am a job on as follows:

Customer wants a socket and lights installed in a newly build porch, with no spare ways on the existing DB.  However, this do have a double socket which is a spur from the downstairs ring (which is on an RCD).  I propose to place here a 13AMP fuse spur from the fuse spur run a new socket to replace the one I've just removed.  Drill straight through the wall and put a socket in the porch.

My question is would would be the best way to put lights in from this circuit - should I down rate further ???

I want to do it right and just asking for advise - not to be stuck down by lighting.

Thanks

there is a reg which states the max rating a lamp holder can be fused at. find that reg and you will have your answer (ill give you a hint, section 559)

and where is your discrimination if you have a 13a fused spur fed from a 13a fused spur?

NonSpark - that's exactly what I was thinking.............

The porch is not plastered at the moment so I can flush mount the back boxes to make them look neat and tidy.

Are you saying you are going to REMOVE the existing socket (which is a spur) to connect the new porch socket.

If you really are removing it, then just extend the cable through the wall to the new socket. The danger is "someone" might put the original socket back making a spur on spur situation.

If you want to keep both, the FCU must go BEFORE the first socket.

Why not look at the possibility of fishing a second cable through to incorporate the existing socket on the ring, that would be a much better solution.

You have a point Dave, but if someone wants to alter the circuit to re-instate the socket, then they shouldn't do that without checking things first.

How about changing back box for a dual item (side by side single boxes) so keeping a single socket and providing an FCU for porch.

binkys idea seems a the best solution to the scenario if they dont want any new holes knocking in their hallway.
