Not had much encounters with emergency lights, so could do with a heads up before I look at some. Had a call to Basically when there tested with the key switch the em lights come on but are very dim on 2 of the units.

Almost certainly the batteries have failed. Open them up and measure the battery voltage when running with the mains off.

If they are dud. you might be able to just replace the battery pack.

It's either the above or if you are equipped you

may be able to check the charging current from

the charger unit and the charging voltage.

A lot of rechargeable battery packs for EM lights have a space to write the installation date of the battery. If this has been filled in it may give you a reasonable estimation if they are likely to be past their working life even before you test anything.

What state are the lamps in as have found that if they are black at the ends they give poor light output as well

What types of fittings are these are they standalone bulkheads exit boxes or a combined fitting I tend to change the fitting if it's not a lamp as more than likely within months of changing it something else will go on it for the price a replacement costs it's far more economical for me to replace it however if the fitting matches the rest in the building and there Obselete I repair them

morning all, have only just been to look at fittings yesterday so thought id update the thread. fittings were a flush type of ceiling.

the lamps were fine in normal mode so that ruled te lamps out,

checked voltage at batts and had both almost depleted (not sure if ive used that word in the right context, anyway) changed them and even with a couple of mins of being connected they were giving almost full brightness in em mode.

batts had no dates on so not sure when they were fitted. new ones have dates on now!

cheers for all the input, just helped it looked like i knew what i was looking for!! :innocent

I always thought the date of installation was a part of the requirements for emergency lighting installations? To be honest I have seen loads where there are no dates written, and even more often no testing records.

I wonder how much trouble these companies would be in if any checks were ever taken out.
