Hi all.
Am I right or wrong in thinking the the whole of Europe is supposed to be working to some kind of standard? Isn't that why we had to change the colours of our conductors etc.
I'm working in France at the mo and from what I can see there isn't a standard of any kind.
The cables are run in copex with red and blue conductors, inside walls with no adherence to zones whatsoever. No glands on the stuff either, it's just rammed into the JB if it'll fit or if not then the conductors go in by themselves. When they use three core cable (which is rock hard and well difficult to use) they revert to brown and blue so you get red to brown connections all over the place. They use orange and purple for switch wires as well and sometimes a black or the blue. It's a nightmare, I've had more belts in a week than in the last 10 years.
Connections are made inside wall cavities or celings with choccy block and then just plastered over lol. bad day explode
The list of other things we'd be hauled over the coals for is endless.
It makes me wonder why the UK rules are so damn strict because I don't hear of people being electrocuted on a regular basis.
Any comments?
