Another committee has sat  to create the Experienced Worker Assessment   ( EWA)  which will replace the JIB Mature Candidate Assessment .

Its page 12 if you really want to read it all.

There are many acronyms used  , as there is in this trade  and more Technobabble  to finish off with .

The EWA has been developed  via a group comprising  the TESP  , ECA , JIB , NET , UNITE , NICEIC , ELECSA ,  ECS ,  NAPIT ,  C&Gs   and EAL   .      :redcard

It ends with the immortal words  :-        "  By working together to improve  how existing workers demonstrate  occupational competence , we collectively drive standards  and quality with this standardised and transparent process "

There are those who can do  and those who sit on committees Murdo.

See my next post .... a thousand committees riding on the backs of electricians .................gas fitters ? it seems   just one .  Gas Safe .   Plumbers ...don't know .   Builders ...nothing ..anyone can be a builder it seems .    Painters ...get some decent brushes & try not to make a mess.     Plasterers ...... if its smooth & does'nt fall off you're competent .

Car mechanics  ..... socket set   ,Haynes Manual ...... and you're away .

I've never known an industry with as many "governing bodies", regulations, updates and amendments to regulations, different qualifications, different methods of getting said qualifications but all the while literally anybody can work on an electrical installation.

How important do they feel believing they are doing so much good to the industry. If only they actually worked with their eyes open and see the real results of their labour??

I'd pay good money to be a fly in the wall when these things get discussed ........................ I mean, when did any of these people get their hands dirty or visit a site or get involved with bob the builder.......... or Kev the kitchen fitter ............ Barry the bathroom fitter ...............Harry the handyman ..........

^^ or just retire early (I might have mentioned that before)
You did ...along with  No Part P in Scotland !!!      Hmmm   a lot of experience could disappear from the trade as us old 'uns start  retiring .

Leaving the way open for the  NIC logo clad  new wave of glove wearing , helmeted  , licensed to carry lock off kits brigade ,   with a thousand biros in their top pockets  for form filling .

ha ha.

A couple of years ago my assessor asked me if I was going to fit a lock off device to a fuseboard - to which I said - I can but  thought you wanted me to do a Ze test, and the lock off kit will prevent me removing the cover ..........
