Just wondering if it is possible to set up one workbook to access figures from a different workbook.

The workbooks are separate work documents

I know exactly what i want to do but don't quite know how to ask:Blushing

The answer is yes. I used to use a planning tool that checked work schedules, shift patterns, production schedules and everything was in the one programme. The bad news is I havent a clue how it was done! Good luck in your search - the answer is out there

Rev: Thanks I'll keep looking

Patch: LOL i want it to do it automatically like you would do with formulas and figures within one workbook between different sheets of that workbook

Hi,

What you've done above is totally correct if you also want changes in your new document to be reflected back.

Often this is not the case.

Another much better way (But complex) to do it involves "advanced filters".

This link below describes these functions best.

This filter when you run it actually copies instead of linking the data from another area to the place you want it.

This is ideal for price lists when you change the copied data it will not effect your master price detail.

It's a little advanced but if you get to grips with it it's brilliant!

Google's amazing, don't you know;)
Yep tis too..........Nearly as good as the HELP section in Exel.....

Create a link to another cell, workbook, or program

Show AllHide All

Create a link between cells in the same worksheet or workbook

Click the cell that contains the data you want to link to, and then click Copy on the Standard toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands.

To display a toolbar, press ALT and then SHIFT+F10.).Click the cell you want to link from, and then click Paste .Click Paste Options and then click Link Cells.

Create a link between cells in different workbooks

Open both the workbook that will contain the link (called the destination (destination file: The file that a linked or embedded object is inserted into. The source file contains the information that is used to create the object.

When you change information in a destination file, the information is not updated in the source file.) workbook), and the workbook that contains the data you want to link to (called the source (source file: The file that contains information that was used to create a linked or embedded object.

When you update the information in the source file, you can also update the linked object in the destination file.) workbook).

In the destination workbook, click Save .Select a cell or cells you want to link from.If you are creating a new formula, type = (an equal sign). If you are entering the link elsewhere in the formula, type the operator (operator: A sign or symbol that specifies the type of calculation to perform within an expression.

Surprising what you find in the "HELP" section of Exel init..... :red card
