Hello there guys, I am in need of some advice...

In the house there's not that many sockets, (only been here 2 years), so i was going to change a few to 3 gang outlets... as we use lots of low power devices like ipod chargers, phone chargers, etc. When i went to change the socket downstairs, i notice it's already been spurred from the socket accross the room, via a quite thin multi stranded cable - which comes from a hole drilled in the underside of each socket and disappears under the carpet.

So a few questions if i could,

1) Is this safe?

2) Does it conform to standards etc?

3) Does the cable need to be in a conduit that runs along the wall?

I had the feeling that the mains sockets must be wired with solid core twin and earth but i'm no electrician :s

Any advice would be great! =D

Thanx guys and have a good weekend

fixed wiring in flex is permitted, however the cable must still be a suitable size. if its a spur from the ring main, then it should be wired in 2.5

cables do not need to be enlosed in trunking/ conduit (except singles). they can be clipped direct to the

as for it being safe, it may be, it may not be. not enough info.
