I need to make some alterations to circuits within a board that has an MEM 404ELHNC elcb main switch (80A/30mA). These alterations will need RCD protection.

If this device tests out ok - ie 1 x < 200ms, 5 X < 40ms is this acceptable or will I need to fit a new RCD?

Does anyone know the BS number for the MEM device?

Thanks.

I have pulled this out of a 16th Edition, incorporating amendments

1 & 2.

Page 188, BSEN 61008-1  1995.  on RCCB's.

This replaces BS4293;  1983  which, at the time, was

still current.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does many thanks for that.

So am I correct in thinking that this device is suitable to provide Additional Protection?

Looking at the internet first, I found the standard but

I wanted to tie it up with the current BSEN 61008 one.

It looks like the newer BSEN 61008 superceded the

BS4293 and at the time, it was current.

I stand to be corrected but as I see it, if it does the same

as an RCD or RCBO for additional protection, I cannot

see any problem and could therefore be left in.

Steps got there before me. :Applaud

yes, its fine as long as it passes the trip times.
Thank you gentlemen!

Thats a current operated ELCB (also known as an RCD ;) ), not a voltage operated ELCB.

If your cert has a space for the BS number of the device, then its BS4293 as others say. No reason at all to replace if working fine :)
