My main wholesaler always supplied fitzgerald battens I liked them. I didn't use there vapourproof stuff as ity was a bit expensive but it was certainly good quality. The dextra stuff says british on it but not sure if it is made in this country. I am a great beliver in buying british but it is getting harder to do that.

I'm pretty sure Dextra is British but not sure about the control gear.
Trouble is most old names ie Wylex Mk Etc import there stuff now not much is made in this country. I think Contactum still manufacture I think that is why you probably don't have a lot of problems with there stuff.

Really , I didn't know that, although someone said that Siemens make the MK stuff  :O
No, MK was one of the larger employers round here. They closed the last manufacturing part at least 6 years ago now and all the land was sold off for housing. There is still a registered office in the UK.

I have always wondered if GET is somehow linked to MK as lots of there stuff is identical.

GET is part of Schneider electric(Merlin Gerin, SquareD etc), While MK's weatherproof range is good, I've stopped using all the other MK products.

Tis my understanding that.....

Crabtree, Volex & Wylex are ALL part of Electrium,

Seimens OWNS Electrium!!!!

Siemens acquires Electrium - Voltimum UK - Electrical Installation Products and Contracting

"Siemens will continue to run the Crabtree, Wylex and Volex brands and supplement our portfolio with their products. In addition, Electrium's opportunities for growth are increased through access to Siemens' resources for research and development, logistics, and global sales and marketing. These are the ideal prerequisites for continuing the growth of recent years", says Christopher Thomas, CEO of Electrium who will continue to manage the business.

It seems that Fitzgerald may be back in business. We are part of a buying group for independent wholesalers and today we got sent a new set of terms

and prices for March 2009. It seems they have moved the south east depot to

West Thurrock and Tim Fitgerald is at the helm.
