I recently hit everyone on my (early 1970s) estate, the local 'expensive bit' and another 70's estate with calenders and got 2 enquiries resulting in 1 job, covered the costs but a crap response rate for the number delivered (about 700).

But as it was calenders I'm hoping in some of the old farts keeping them for reference and getting more calls throughout the year.

What are the best areas to deliver leaflets to? (not geographically) i mean who do you target?
No-one. Leaflet dropping is generally a PITA unless you are pretty certain before you do it you're going to get a good return.

Every time this question gets asked on various forums for different trades the response is always the same, 'we dropped a few hundred\thousand and have had the odd 1 or 2 calls'.

When I first started self employed, while waiting for the yellow pages advert to appear (still my main source of new work) I used to look up all the weekly planning applications and mail shot people applying for PP for new builds or extensions. That gave me a few jobs when I first started. I only mailed those applying directly, figuring if the planning application was submitted by a builder they probably had a sparks they used already.

You'd be better off paying for an ad in your local parish mag....
I think the best response I ever got was a half page advert for a tenner on the back of my Sisters schools PTA magazine affair. Had endless amounts of work coming in from that and all on the same newish estate.

Nothing to do with sparks but , when i was a delivery driver I used to go to a little kitchen shop in Staines poxy little shop in a parade , but the business this guy did was unbelievable he advertised in all the local free papers people would come to him for anything from a new tap to a dish washer he could underprice anyone. That was the only advertising he did , people got used to seeing the advert thus knowing the name.

i dropped 200 leaflets last week on a 70's estate and got one phone call from it. a CU upgrade booked in for this thursday.

I spent 2 hours a day for a week walking the streets with my dog and a box full of buisness cards, posted countless amounts and got 2 calls which both amounted to nothing. I wont be doing that again in a hurry.

At least the dog was happy though so not all lost.
