An odd one I guess. Chucking together an old pc for the wife who can't get on with Ubuntu and never really liked Windows 7! The plan is XP but with this Service Pack 4.

Currently have a spare 250GB SATA HDD earmarked for it which I've cleaned up and reformatted as NTFS with it in USB caddy, What I'd like to do is partition it from within Ubuntu so I end up with a 30GB partition for XP. Then take it out and put in the new machine and install XP.

Possible? What software under Ubuntu?

Cheers

is there nothing on it as yet?

if its empty you could use 'disk utility' ,

its already installed in 12.04 +

remember and install XP first, otherwise it will likely wipe GRUB and you wont be able to boot ubuntu

make an NTFS 30G primary, a 220G primary, and then split into your logicals in EXT4 for ubuntu, / /home /swap

personally, I'd also do a NTFS as a /media

then you cab share your media between Ubuntu and XP
