Evening all.

In the middle of wiring a large new build property and there is a requirement for a coax outlet in each room (8) to distribute freeview.

I have wired each outlet back to the point where I will install an amp. I have also wired a cable from here to the chimney where the ariel will be installed.

The house is located within a rural area and known for bad TV signal. I therefore decided to test an ariel on the roof to see what I could pick up. I ordered a "Labgear TV Aerial Digital 32-Element" and managed to get 1 light (60) on my signal tester.

Now what would be the best device to use, to amplify this signal so that a decent signal can be distributed through out the house?

I need some sort of amp/splitter that is capable of ampifying this weak signal.

Cheers.

1. Have you double checked the optimum compass bearing direction for the best transmitter?

try...

http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

Postcode or grid ref of the property needed.

2. Stick a mast-head amp on as well, you can have an amp then a splitter..

3. Is there an option for an even better aerial than what you have got?

4...................

Buy a DVD player!!!!! :^O :^O:innocent

:coat

If you have a crappy signal then all you get when you amplify it is more crap!
Stuck a cheapo amp in line when I tested it and got 2 lights rather than 1! So it must be doing something! I was thinking along the lines of purchasing some sort of top of the range amp/splitter that would boost the crappy signal.

Cheers

As SL suggested it might be a case of using an aerial with more elements first

What are you using to test the signal? the

try doubling up on the antennae,

remember the rule for every meter up is a 9mile gained sorta thingie,

failing that, would deffo try doubling the aerial on one pole, then after all else an amp,

as has been said, an amp only increases what you already have,

10X amp is

1X cr4p in = 10X cr4p out

Do you mean you've got one of these:

Try one of these for starters:

http://www.screwfix.com/prods/60215/Electrical-Supplies/TV-Range/Aerials-Fixings/Labgear-TV-Aerial-High-Gain-Digital

Way better than the first one, and for some reason they're on special offer just now. I've got one on my own chimney.

Also get it as high as you can.

And point it in the right direction; get the compass bearing from here:

http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/coverage.html

If the area is really so 'fringe' it's almost impossible to get a good signal (are there any such places?), then why not just put up a dish with an octo LNB and let them use Freesat instead?

Or get a Sky contract?!
Don't think the bloke wants a sky contract patch, Have also suggested freesat but he doesnt fancy buying all the boxes for the smaller TV's

Look at other aerials around to see what other people have got.
Nearest property is 500m up the road and a lot higher than this one. Have the ariel set up exactly the same. Cheers
