Just had to remove a fan light from my from room as it was affecting the flue gasses from my gas fire..

So I was wondering what people do (and what you should do - please jl) when they install these in rooms where gas fires exist:

Is it fit and forget?

Fit and recommend a gas safety check (in writing)?

or

Include the price of a gas safety check when you quote?

if there is a gas fire in a room the fire will need smoke testing with the fan running both forward and backwards.

also if there is one in an ajoining room again same checks.

also believe it or not fitting a kitchen fan you should check the room fire to.

but to be honest when would anyone have a gas fire on and a fan running . ???

never the less i would fit it and reccommend a gas safety check before using it, i think its a cp4 cert (might be wrong wih the cert number)

i dought there would be a legal implication to be honest, joiners box in boilers all the time and avoid tolerances etc given by the manufactureres, builders build over flues and put concervatories round flues,

but as you say a disclaimer helps .

i have one before work begins and 1 on completion.

Well I never heard of this before, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I will have to consider the implications in future installs.

ive heard it before... only because i used to work with plumbers installing heatings, and often had to disconnect the fan!

but then how many fans come with instructions saying they cant be used in a room with a gas fire? and how are other sparks supposed to know they cant install it if its not in 7671 or manufacturers instructions?!

for your info guys have a read of this and maybe print a copy ..

! The Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions (DTLR)

referred to the changed requirements in paragraphs 1.20 to 1.23 of Approved

Document

Mrs Admin and I had them in our living room 9 years ago (Different house) and everytime the fire had a service - they would check - with both fans on etc.

Passed each test though.
