I need to install a new supply in 6mm T&E to a cooker, it will pass behind an Aga which cannot be moved, on to it's final location.

My problem is the effect of the Aga's heat on the cable, there is insufficient space to install a duct of any sort to offer protection to the cable. The Aga is currently off and so I am unable to determine the maximum operating temperature behind the it. My guess is that it will not get excessively hot and 6242Y will suffice but does anyone have experience of this. I have put the customer on hold until I can give a definitive answer.

Can anybody offer any advice on which cable might best suit my needs please?

Citys and Edmundsons both do H07RN-F by the metre.

If you PM me your requirements I may be able to help as I have a stock of 3c 6mm.

Personally I always make the final connection to hobs & ovens in H07RN-F, sized according to the manufacturers instructions.

My experience of Aga,s is they are really well lagged and the heat is contained withing the body of the cooker . Don't quote me but I don't think you have a problem.
I would be inclined to agree with your thinking, most ovens are designed to be efficient at retaining heat for the internal cooking function. But compared to a conventional oven, the AGA could have additional issues of exposed external pipework where the AGA is used as a water heating function. Connecting pipes may not be so well lagged?

is this a proper AGA or a 'new' reworked one?

when I think of AGAs I think of proper coal/wood fired stoves with a primary function of cooking,

is this something different?

Thanks for all of your replies, sorry for the delay but here is an update.

Having spoken with Aga technical services they advised that the heat output from the rear of the unit would be no greater than that from a small radiator. This is a gas powered unit. I ran 6mm T&E from the CU to a cabinet at the side of the Aga and installed a 2g switch, from here to the new cooker location (and behind the Aga) I ran 10mm T&E. This way I figured any derating of the cable because of the ambient heat from the Aga would be taken care of.

I hope that makes sense, I have already taken a couple of glasses of sottish water this evening, it is Thursday after all.
