I know the minimum height of a switch is 1200 to the top of the switch. But what is the maximum height you can put a switch?

Appendix H on Site guide..

page 177

Sockets switches and controls Min & Max heights are between

450mm to 1200mm

thats Part M building regs for new build work...

If its an old property..

stuff em whatever height you and the customer are happy with!

1200 mm IS MAXIMUM hight to top of switch not minimum for Part M requirements.

Another exemption:

"portable buildings"

I'm in the middle of one now, built in 4 transportable sections to be put together on site, replacing a static residential caravan.

Because under planning law it's still treated as a caravan, it's exempt from building control, so no silly height restrictions on switches and sockets.

Easy there.

Part M only does not need to be followed to any works in existing dwellings (including extensions). So new dwellings and all commercial work should comply with part M.
