Hello - Newbie with 2 Gang socket replacement query :)

I have pics but can upload them?

I want to swap a 2 gang dimmer for a 2 gang sonoff wifi switch, but dont know where the wires should go.

The existing has a grey wire with brown tape going in to gang 1 L1. a brown wire into gang 1 (cross symbol?) then a wire from this into gang 2 L1. Gang 2 L1 also has another wire with brown tape on it going in.

The new switch has:

N in

L in

L3 Out

L2 Out

L1 out

Please help!!

I could do a drawing and work it out

BUT it is pointles because you can't fit this switch.

Your existing wiring has live in and switched live out. that's all. It probably has an earth as well.

Your new switch requires a neutral connection. Unless there are any blue wires joined together in a connector block in the back of the switch box, then you don't have that neutral connection, so can't fit the new switch without some rewiring.

Let us know if there are any blue wires in the back of the box.

Are your cables buried in the wall or coming down in conduit?

They are in the wall, but if conduit in this terminology is that metal strip, that is under the plaster.

There are basically two key methods of wiring lighting circuits in the UK. One brings Live and Neutral to the switch, then the Live and Neutral out to the light fitting. The other takes a Live to the switch, live out to the light then the neutral only goes to the other side of the light. If you have the second option you will have no Neutral wiring at your switch. Its pretty much a 50-50 chance on any property how the lights are wired. Some properties may have a mix of both. So you new switch could be an easy swap in one room but complicated in the room down the hall.

Looks like the switch needs a  L & N  supply to  it  ... it doesn't look like  you have a Neutral there .
