Hi jacked business.

I have recently been constructing a website to promote my business, so went on google tonight to see if the search engines have found it,only to find someone has placed a website using my company name / address, and similar domain, but a non standard telephone number (Landline). The number begins 42, all local numbers are 25, and when you dial this number it re-directs to my phone???

If this is a scam, what the hell is going on????

First off you need to do a whois search to find out who owns the domain name!

It could be anything. None of us can say or do much as we're just guessing, hence the request for some links.

Scam i would say

you phone the number up,,,,,tells you you are being redirected

comes through to you......

the scam.....the redirection is premium rate payable by the dialer....

not 100% sure on this though

funny you should say that Binky.... just looked for my website, and found i have a similar 'copycat' website with different number

shame about the fact the bright spark who made it used 'south shields' for site name, yet says i cover north shields?! i rarely go there, too much hassle through the tunnel!

yell piggy back this number on to your to trace the calls you get, then when renewals come round they have figures to say how many calls they have directed to you. I have a enhanced web listing with them and declined this free service as i didnt want the confusion to customers.

With regard to links, I was trying to avoid publishing exactly who I am for the very reason of trying to avoid scams. Though seeing as patch already knows and I don't remember telling him, I'm probably wasting my time anyway.

As for yell - their rep is going to get a very large ear-full today, as I think I have been charged for this unwanted site. One is not a happy bunny X(X( X(
