Hi Chaps and chapettes,

I have two separate questions for you.

1. MK's grid switch labelled 'hob', is only rated at 20A, can this be used on a hob that has a power rating of 7.5KW. Applying diversity I think yes, but still the peak use will exceed 20A?

2. A customer of mine had a cooker tripping his RCD, he called someone out to repair it. He said 'Oh I know what this is', went in the consumer unit and tightened all the screws on the CPCs and apparantly this fixed the problem. Any idea how that is possible??

I thought he'd disconnected the cpc on the cooker circuit and lied to the customer, but i've been there since and the cpcs are all connected.

Thoughts on a postcard! :C

i would thought that the switch would be used with gas hob supplied with a 13a plugtop for the spark button.

dunno about the next one could of been anything loose N maybe, or N to cpc, cpc disconnected at back of cooker, bypassed RCD to non protected side

the switch should be at least the same size as the mcb or higher.

The second one... doesn't sound right to me.

As above with the first one, isolator same or greater than mcb rating.

as for tightening the screws on cpc's. I can't really see that working, I would think that would make the rcd trip more?

Imagine you have 26mA leaking to earth, improving the earth connection is going to increase the leakage current due to less reistance.
