guys got called out this afternoon to sort out a supply to a gas hob, they had an electric oven installed on a 32 a mcb/6mm t&e with a local cooker switch and low level bull nose outlet

the kichen has just been refurbed/tiled. I have installed a dual single backbox at low level and spurred out of the bull nose to a single socket.

I thought this would be ok as ive seen manufactured cooker switches with sockets on but just want to know if you guys think its acceptable practice??

thanks

When you say spurred out , do you mean via a spur unit. To follow the letter of the regs, your socket would need to looped off in 6mm because of the MCB backing it up. However lets face it, with hob ignition its never going to be overloaded is it. Presume you fitted a 3amp fuse to protect the hob flex ?

not always Deke. you can use smaller cable. i.e 2.5mm

i dont see a problem with the socket on lighting circuit like you done. just make sure it marked in the board and your safe. maybe even go one further and put a label on socket saying 'TV amp only'

for the 2.5 from cooker circuit, see 433.2.1 and 433.3.1 (ii)

I don't think so Andy, but I'd do it anyway, the short piece of 2.5mm would never overload, so I agree with you. Some blokes get paranoid over such things. In the loft of an old people's home , I connected a 1 gang 13a socket to the lighting circuit, ( 10amp MCB) .It was to feed the TV ariel amplifier, personally I had no problem with what I'd done , amplifier rated at 1amp, but a spark wiring the fire alarms thought it was terrible and should be a dedicated circuit. Place all decorated and handed over, sorry , he,s being pedantic.
Deke - why not have fitted a round pin socket and changed the plug on the amp - everyone happy?

Good point Patch but you still need the fuse in the plug top to protect the amp and the flex. The 100,000,000 to 1 chance that someone climbs into the loft and plugs in a 3kw heater would result in the lighting MCB tripping.

A lot of guys in this trade will decry you if you do something that is'nt shown in the Good book , without thinking it out for themselves.

I have a classic one which I'll put on a new thread, amazing how many sparks will pick you up on his one , need to scan a drawing for it , might leave it for tomorrow, it used to cause a right controversy.

Ah go-on Sandra - a bit of controversy on a bank hol :D

Get off then , I m not doing it till tomorrow , I have to use my considerable PC skills to post a drawing and I can't remembr how to do it without re-reading Patche's instructions TBH

Nighty - night

I linked out of the bullnose in 2.5 into a single socket. both the bullnose and socket are on a dual box so its about a 3 inch length of cable.

thanks for the replies guys
