Hi

I have my am2 exam very soon and i have never terminated fp200 cable or really come across it. Can anyone explain to me how it has to be done in the exam? or anyone know of any videos/photos to help out as i am struggling to find any information?

Thanks

When I did my am2 it was pyro. As for using fp200 it is fairly simple just like flex but easier to strip I use my snips to nip it and it will just strip when you bend it if it's a cheaper version of fp then a knive is needed to ring it but not sure if your allowed to use one on your am2 I wouldn't worry about it to be honest if u can strip cable u will.be fine with fp

As for a video try YouTube

When sleeving FP 200 you should use the heat

resistant sleeving and mark the conductors with

another piece of sleeving of the colour marking

the function of the conductor.

Welcome to the forum, have you asked your tutors? I presume you are paying for this course and exam as such those providing the exam should have suitably qualified staff able to explain to you what standards the examining body require.

Lee, FP200 is 2 core (say) + bare solid earth wire, in an aluminium tube covered in PVC.

Just score the alum. sheath with your Stanley knife and it will break away.

Push the gland on (Glorified stuffing gland)

You should have a nylon jobby to bush the cut end , it protects the fragile insulation from cutting against the aluminium.

If you don't have them just use some tape to stop the insulation from being bent against the sheath.

TBH if this is some sort of course you shouldn't be asked to do FP or Pyro if youv'e not covered it.

if doing a job use fp200 gold. the insulation is tuff and will prevent problems later

the rest of the guys covered the rest. ferrules are rarely used

you guessed it deke, as not fitted by all the big firms :yellow card

they just look blank at you if you asked for a ferrule or a female bush lol

Ferrules have not been needed on FP or FP gold for over 10 years now. No sharp edges when the tube snaps although i still wrap the end with tape. CEF's Doncaster fire proof cable is completely different. Layers of fire proof fabric under the sheath.

Edit from the manufacturer....

18. Are ferrules required for FP200 Gold

I still have some of the old FP ferrules...it was ages before I discovered that each drum came with a bag of ferrules in the middle of it!

Hypothetical question...if you came across old FP200 on an EICR and ferrules had not been fitted how would you code it?, considering that you cannot purchase the ferrules to make it 'right'...............just a though,....... :coat

All the fp I have used have been the correct colouring any way....

On your AM2 what ever you do don't bring a Stanley knife they are not allowed as they are not seen as part of an electricians toolkit, use the CK electricians knife they supply as they should have all the tools required to complete the assessment or with the long term in mind buy one. In my AM2 when stripping the FP I just ringed it and snapped the sheath off as it generally rounds it out for no sharp edges and just terminate as you would do any other cable.

Try the learning lounge dot com they have most of the videos online that the college should be showing. The practical skills series covers termination of FP cables.
