How to wire a contactor for emergency lighting?

Hello i was wondering could somebody explain or draw how it would look for emergency lighting, does the contactor need its own mcb and what is connected in A1, A2.

Your OP is a bit vague Kev all I can say is that a1 and a2 will be the coil connections on a contactor.

Generally emergency lighting is wired into a local wiring circuit so unless there are a lot of lights a contactor would not be needed.

Many.

Bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. You cold use a contactor with emergency lights in all manner of ways, much the same way as you could use a light switch with a light in all manner of ways.

If I get time I'll drop into one of my jobs today & take a few pics for you.

It's a 230v lighting system with contactors, 24v relays & adjustable latching timers thats tripped by 24v paging/telephony (isdn or pstn) system & also a 24v manual switch with latching timer & 24v relays.

Overview:

2x sets of lights (internal & external) both sets activate via paging.

The external light can also be activated by the manual switch, & will stay illuminated for a longer period, with the internal lighting staying off.

This is the timer relay & contactor system on a fire station.

When they get a call to a fire it comes in via a phone line to a modem which in turn fires a 24v pulse, this fires the 24v relay which in turn switches the supply to a tempatron timer relay. The tempatron then switches the coil on a TP contactor & so turns the stations internal lights on across 3 phases at selected rooms of the station.

The lights can also be turned on via a 24v non-latching switch, this is why a 24v psu was used for the constant 24v supply.

I had to expand the system to include a new external lighting circuit that would operate with the above setup, but the lights had to stay on longer than those inside the building & have a seperate 24v switch that would only turn the external lights on......so I had to use a two relay set & a seperate timer relay.

Not my neatest work sorry.
