It doesn't matter what it is I still have to buy it either way (and don't they know it!) but yeah better it's below the pound Mark. Now if only we could get the rest of the eighties prices on everything :)

WHY is petrol so expensive?

It is NOT the price of oil.

Back in January, petrol briefly dipped to 99.9p per litre. At that time, domestic heating oil dipped to about 37p per litre https://www.boilerjuice.com/heating-oil-prices/

So looking again at the heating oil price chart, heating oil fell back under 37p per litre in July this year.

So the big question is WHY didn't petrol fall under £1 a litre in June, why only now? Why is it now so much dearer in relation to heating oil that it was in January?

Dave runs his Bentley on reclaimed oil from the local chippy .   Another year up there and he'll be wearing a kilt  in the Prodave Tartan .

There's a council estate round here where parked on the drive outside a council house is a Bentley.

No it's not mine.

I could try heating oil in my digger but I just buy red diesel for that.

I just filled up the other day as I needed diesel, same as I have for the last 20 years. Didn't take a lot of notice of the price.

Its generally the trend for petrol to be a bit dearer in the summer. Its down to supply and Demand caused by the us 'Driving season'. All those yanks driving vast distances in their 5L petrol powered pick-up trucks because the weather has warmed up :p

Conversely Diesel is at risk of increase in the winter because it is a very similar fraction to heating oil which is in demand

But my point is, we are at the peak demand time for heating oil, so you would expect heating oil to be relatively higher than petrol, but it's the other way around.

demand and supply. more demand for heating oil in N hemisphere this time of year so price will go up
You are missing my point.

Since July heating oil prices have fallen faster than petrol prices.

Heating oil should be held high at this time of year as it's peak demand time for heating oil, but it is not being held high, it is falling fast.

Petrol should be in less demand as the "driving season" is over, but petrol prices are holding up and falling more slowly than heating oil prices.

Why is this?
