As per title have an Omron Sysmac C28K Programmable Controller - know absolutely nowt about them! Only really deal with AB Micrologix kit. Can anyone give me a heads up on what I need to connect to the thing in terms of software and leads? Have downloaded some info and tried downloading software called SYSWIN but it seems corrupt. Also read that can "make my own leads". Any info appreciated. Cheers.

Possibly Onoff, what are you trying to attempt, and what is the unit fitted to?

What port does it have 9pin d type?

If it is it will be 232 or 485, almost certainly, it may be straight through or cross over?

Give me a bit more info & also the boaty will be along in a minute with more I suspect.

Do you have any links?

You need Syswin or LSS (DOS based) and a Null modem cableYou also need to set the DIP switches correctly on the C28

The C20 series started life around 1985 and finished life in 2002, if this is a critical production machine id suggest replacing with a new Omron (or Other) PLC

I have just added the LSS software and Pinout diagram to the downloads section

Many thanks for that. I assume that 25-pin connector is special to Omron? Also it's DOS based I note which is going back in time a bit for me. Can I run it on a modern laptop or will I need to load DOS? If not then I think I've some DOS 6.2 discs somewhere and can get hold of a laptop with an RS232 port and 3.5" floopy too. Think I've even got some DOS discs on 5 1/4" floppies!

You'll need an RS232 port, the 25 pin is a standard D type not special to Omron, You may be able to run LSS in a Windows 98 Dos modeSyswin is a windows option but i am pretty sure this is licensed, hence the DOS version which is now freely available as its so old
Cheers. I was being dense! Just realised how long it is since I've come across or even heard a 25-pin serial port being mentioned! (Same TBH goes for the old parallel ports!)

Think I've got the bits in the garage in the "one day I'll have a use for them" box!

It's on a piece of facade access equipment on a roof (window cleaner's type cradle). God awful UK designed thing from around 2000. IMO out of date when it was built - I heard the C28K had been on the shelf for three years before it was used. No speed drives on the kit, everything direct on line etc and the plc is I think just used to cut down on the number of control wires primarily. Kit has died and don't have any way of interrogating the plc etc. As I say I'm only used to Micrologix. I've not yet been to site, just trying to help out on the periphery. Like a challenge! Once again this forum proving brilliant. Will post any photos I get.

Thanks all.

I assume I need to make up two 1.44MB floppies maybe, I unzipped the downloaded file to two folders in windows (Windows 7) and called them Discs 1 & 2 then tried running the lss batch file in the Disc 1 folder. This screen came up:

lss_1.jpg

Guessing I should try & make the two floppies up and give them the volume names as the text files suggest? So long since I've touched anything DOS wise!

Cheers

No its the 666 of operating systems, i call it severn cos its diabolical, I am biased though ask my dad....
I can honestly say that for me Windows 7 has been the most stable OS I've ever had - I just never have issues with it. Vista I wouldn't give house room to, though I'm quite fond of XP Pro.......I've had most the old OS's too 95, 98, 2000, NT and Millenium plus go back to about DOS 3.3 and then Apricot DOS before that.

MIGHT have hit a stumbling block.........not sure if the 3G2C7-LK201 "host link unit" is on site! Don't know if it has to be present for the system to work or whether it's something an engineer would carry from site to site..........

I heard a bit more about this job today. Seems that they're getting the correct input lights on the C28K but not all the output lights. I've downloaded the installation and operations manuals for it and after reading them suggested that the fuses and output relays be checked as these appear to be replaceable parts. Also it seems the battery has never been changed. Question if I may, if a relay in the C28K is duff will you still get an output light? In that I mean where is the output indicator taken from, before or after the relay contact? After I would have thought would be most sensible. IMO it's worth trying. HOWEVER it seems they are proposing to change the OMRON unit for an AB one and write their own program. They do NOT have access to the original OMRON program! Think I'll try and step away from this one..........you can lead a horse to water etc.

Will update if I hear anything more.
