Anyone got any tips on how to insure a teenager.

My Nephew, aged 17 just passed his test, Mum and Dad have found a nice first car for him, 1.3 Fiesta cost

yes, bell, admiral, elephant.

add his mum or dad as a NAMED driver and it will bring it down, try and keep the mileage as low as possible, have a look on moneysaving expert which can show the difference in cost, of re-wording your job.

Some insurance companies now do a named driver scheme where they can collect no claims bonuses, I am not sure who but its worth a try.

I have no idea of any companies but I do know the insurance premium has very little to do with the car he is driving. More to do with the values of the other cars on the road he is likely to damage.

Doc H.

If he his the main driver make sure he is named as such. There have been cases of insuring car with mum or dad as main driver and son as a named driver. If they have an accident [when?] there have been cases where they refuse to pay.

Use comparison sites. Consider taking the 'Pass Plus' course as some insurers will give 1 year's NCD with it. Are we looking at 3rd party insurance only? Not worth any more if car only worth

Yep third party onyl, maybe third party fire and theft, alough i have never workerd out why someone would steal a burning car.

It's intresting to note that if he was a Girl, the cost would only be about

Patch is right the insurers will refuse to pay out if a parent insures the car as the main driver when they clearly are not, it's considered to be a false statement

Unfortunately due to his age and the fact he could be a mad bum insurance companies have got to protect themselves. I would be surprised if he was a girl he would get it for

My first was with Admiral (though admittedly I was 20). As others have said, put his Mum or Dad on as a named driver to bring the premium down. I put my girlfriend on mine (not passed her test) and it dropped by ~

Don't go anywhere near Admiral, it's a very long story, but in the end they took my son for thousands and made his insurance void. They are well known for being bad.

id recommend direct line, been with them over 8 years and havent got a bad word against them.

The was a thing at the end of last year where it came out that parents where insuring cars with the parents saying they where the main driver and the their kids as other drivers even though the kids where the main drivers.

It turns out it is illegal and the kids would therefore be driving without insurance.

Have you had a claim at all yet Badge? As thats when you can tell whether they are a good insurance company or a bad one. In my youth I was an underwriter for about 6 years. Guinness

Had my son as a named driver with Morethan no probs with it!Then did usuall renewell with them then 6 months later he had side window smashed so got policy out then found out they had taken him off with out my knowledge so he was driving around for 6 months uninsured,So i had to claim for side window then phoned them up to have him put back on it.

No the funny part they wouldn't put him back on unless he was the main driver and me the named driver cost extra
