Whilst tidying some wiring from a now obsolete socket position in a kitchen..
(after the builders knocked a new doorway through to a new extension)
I opened up this socket where cables for the now redundant socket went to....
and found a very nice arrangement for extending the ring..
and converting a single back box to accommodate a double socket
from a slightly different angle.
There is a very clever use of "same colour" cable identification..
where 1 x red = Neutral, 2 x red = Live!
Then there is all the wires are cut to short to terminate correctly
so nice bits of connector strip probably only 10A or 15A rating? extend the wires!
The nearest cable coming from the bottom is folded over a very nice jagged cut in the back box....
only needs a bit more pressure for the metal to cut the PVC!
And its one side wall of an old single socket box folded over a cut-in half new box to make the width for a double socket....
So...
Option 1: close it back up and pretend you haven't seen it!
or...
Option 2: Tidy it up with proper back box, longer / new cables etc......
Just waiting for the filler to dry off a bit before it can be finished off then go back. :coffee
We still have the four cables entering the box
Now all through correctly grommeted knock-out holes..
The original ring pair and the two extended ring pair..
so two Lives Neutrals & Earths still need connecting through by-passing the socket..
so used 3 x 2way 32A rated level wagos.. Simples!
