Hi All,

Can any of you learned chaps share any tips or time saving techniques for testing minor works. I'm happy with CU swaps and rewires, though I seem to spend more time testing than actually installing on little jobs like security lighting, extra power etc. I realise the importance of testing and I'm not looking for loopholes, just was of speeding things up a bit. :worship

Thanks in advance.

It could quite well be true that its takes proportionally much longer on the testing - vs - installing ratio with M'works compared to new circuits/new CU..

Often the problem with minor works is establishing what tests you can actually do in relation to what can feasibly be isolated from the existing circuit you are altering...

i.e. Equipment vulnerable to testing...

You just have to evaluate each job on its individual merits and suss out what you can reasonably test..

e.g. say you had a job making a bedroom light switch into a two-way switch with a new cord-pull over the bed....

It would not be reasonably practical to disconnect the transformers off 6 x 12v ceiling spot lamps in the bedroom where each lamp had its own transformer..

So you would just do the 'L+N' to 'E' Ins res and not worry too much about 'L' TO 'N'

But I would still try and get a ZS OR R1+R2 at each of the light fittings in the others rooms..

Cuz I got those light mate plug in adapters things to plug your meter leads directly into the lamp...

So not to hard or time consuming.. probably only 3 or 4 other rooms in the average property!
