Hi,

I am currently an electrician in a papermill, i have completed a 4 year apprentership and have had about 3 years experience out of my time. I am looking into doing some domestic and commercial work on the side of my shift pattern and need to know what qualifications i need to be able to do installs, and sign off both my work and other peoples. I am going to be taking my 17th edition and the testing and inspection (C&G course) soon and need to know what other courses, if any are required to be able to these.

Any help is most appreciated,

Cheers J Danton

Hello and welcome :)

Someone will be able to help you further I'm sure.

You are never able to sign off other peoples work - only your own (unless you become a BCO!)

Have you been to college whilst doing your apprenticeship? What qualifications do you actually hold? 17th & I&T would be useful I don't doubt.

The main players in the self certifying game are NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA, British Standards

:D

you will need to register with a scam provider to part p your work. if you have completed an apprenticeship, that is often more than enough to pass assessment. 2381 and 2391 are a useful thing to have, but not necessary. i you dont have 2391, youll most likely get asked more questions on I&T than someone with it

as apache says, unless your a building inspector, you cannot sign off work of someone else

Thanks,

Yeah i did 4 years at college got an NVQ Lvl 3 in Engineering Maintenance and an ONC in Engineering, but unfortunatly working with 3 phase, HV, LV and control systems doesn't mean anything as soon as i leave the gates at work when it comes to domestic laws, cheers for the reply,

J Danton
