TEL is a privately owned technology development company exclusively developing an innovative tidal stream generator, known as DeltaStream. TEL has identified a demonstration test site at Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire and is in the process of obtaining the necessary consent licences to install a 1.2MW full-scale demonstration DeltaStream device in 2012 for a 12 month test period. The project has been financed to date by shareholders and a capital grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) administered by the Welsh Assembly Government. This funding has brought the project to a state of readiness wherein TEL wishes to award contracts for the final design, construction, deployment and test of the DeltaStream device

Now is it just me, or does anybody else see a HUGE waste of money here????

The bit to watch out for is...

"The contractor will be responsible for the laying of the subsea cables from the device to the shore (approximately 1.2km in length) and their connections to the device."

1/ It really is a barstweard getting them cable clips to fix securely in the seabed..

2/ Make sure you get a full 1.2KM cable reel from TLC..

it can be a sod trying to heat shrink some sleeve over the join while on the sea bed.

3/ Don't start talking to the Dolphins...

they will keep you from your work for hours!!!!

4/ I don't mind coming over in me Kayak to pass a new box of cable clips down to you..

save you swimming back to shore!!!

I`ve got one sticking point at the moment........

I need about 15 people with inflatable dinghys (oops-typo. should read 1500) to float to out there....

And if somebody has a Sikorsky with a large winch, I wouldn`t mind a lend....)

The cable sizing took the longest - finding volt drop on 1.2MW over 1.2Km Now THAT is going to be a big cable......think TLC`ll deliver it to the dock, and we can tie 1 end to a capstan, and tow the reel behind us. I think it`ll make sense to do the connections before sinking it, TBH....

You will need some of our ex-military members to ring a few contacts. M107 must know someone who can lend a helicopter, long floating pontoon, maybe a submarine as well? with these government cut backs you could buy a few bits of ex-army & e-navy kit at a decent price. Actually I think your opening summary "A huge waste of money" sums it all up rather well.

Thought of that - we`ll crimp and sleeve as we go, with the reel(s) floating on the surface behind us ut the kettle on
