i have a few,

1. where is the best place to put a socket for a integrated fridge freezer the fitters say there is no room behined the unit as the fridge freezer wont push back and there is no unit next to it. they do have a space at the top though.

2. underlights, is it common to fuse down from a socket, and whats the best place for transformers

3. 20amp radial circuit, can u do just whatever u want with these eg 3 socket taken from 1

thanks

1) use a flex outlet plate & use a fused spur above worktop to supply outlet.

2) If it's refurb or extending circuits then yes thats what I do, I put the trannies on top of the wall cupboards.

3) Yes just extending the radial..keep in mind the area served though.

i like radial circuits, looks like its only supplying 3 sockets at min but they must be from jb as only 1 cable to each socket.

good idear about the fridge freezer.

on the selv lighting do u ever have to extend the cable from the tranny or is there normally enough

Most transformers will have ~300mm leads at a push, or have outputs on terminals rather than leads. Some light fittings will come with long lengths of cable on already. If somewhere along the line something doesn;t reach, extend it.

I recently did a kitchen and put the transformers on top of the units drilled holes right at the back at the bottom and fished the LV cables to the lights down behind the wall units. jammy or what?

Check because in days gone by they used to fire a ring final in upstairs then drop spurs for the downstairs sockets.

Came across a problem once where the appliance manufacturer refused to honour the warranty because the moulded plug had been cut off to wire into flex outlet.

I now tend to put a socket (off the fused spur) behind the unit next to the appliance and get the kitchen fitters to cut an access hole in the back panel.

Just noticed there's no unit next to the appliance

needs thinking through.

dishwasher is next to it, the fitter suggested a socket in the sink unit and an extention lead under the unit

not to sure about that, guess it would be ok

Generally, get a socket as close as you can; in a neighbouring cupboard if available.

Some people don`t like a socket under the sink; but I`ll put one there if necessary.

Also, I don`t mind fixing to the cupboard; as long as it is a fitted kitchen; not freestanding units.

FYI: many integrated appliances don`t have room behind for a plug & socket. Even if there IS room, you shouldn`t put it there, as it is inaccessible.

Does the fridge freezer stand in a unit (i.e. with a kickspace underneath) or direct onto the floor? If you're lucky and it is, then you could do an FCU feeding a socket in the kickspace void. That way, you can keep the manufacturers plug intact and still make able to be isolated.

If not, how tall is it? If high enough not to see the top, then you could simply fit a socket nearer the ceiling (okay, so not ideal for part m, but needs must!)

units come tommorrow so should be able to work something out

What happens when the washer or dishwasher leaks? Personally I don't like the idea of any electrical accessory directly on the floor.

surely the flex from the fridge must reach the top of the unit and have room to get there, how els could u do it

indeed - I admit it's not ideal... but then things seldom work perfectly... after all, there are certain parts of Cumbria where they'll be mounting sockets on the ceiling soon....
