Install 6 supplies for 3x 3single phase 16amp and 3x 3phase 16amp batt chargers in warehouse for a clothing company.

All in 2.5mm 4core sy flex.

Bacon,

I am another "supporter" of SY in this type of environment!

What glands do you use?

Do you earth the outer?

What do you do with the glands into the polymer enclosures?

If you earth the outer which end?

Well good question Sidey the glands were the CXT type SY glands.

Yes outer earthed

Earth on the ISO'S is tagged with earth cable via small hole on top at the back looks better if you can't see it if you know what i mean then a bit of silicone stop dust.

Both ends of outer earthed.

I use the CXT/GXD type glands on SY also.

I also connect the earth at both ends, but, I NEVER pierce an IP rated enclosure, I will fit the banjo inside the enclosure and jump to the earth terminal within the box, & across the enclosure, or use a Piranha nut and do the same.

Remember mate, silicon is acidic and can attack certain materials and evolve a corrosive atmosphere in an enclosed space which again can cause corrosion.

Nice job though, and I'm not picking holes, but I'm really trying to compare notes.

Fair point but was just a bit tight for the banjo.

More notes the better for the next install that comes up.

I'll have to get the boss to get me a couple of dozen of those piranha nuts save a lot of time i think.

I'm not picking holes either but I dont like CTX glands (personal preference like ford verses vw), Lapp ones are really nice and I like an easy life now I'm older :slap If it's tight I use KY Jelly - oops I mean Hellermann Oil

Nice photos/job by the way, it's unreal how many muppets use a SY/CY cable and then use a crappy plastic TRS gland for it and tape up the braid!

And you can't use silicone based products in paint area (spray shops) as they dont mix ROTFWL
what are they like?

cant say Ive ever used them, not sure I even know what they look like. :|

Nice job Bacon.

I do the same as sidey if room permits put the banjo inside the enclosure or use Piranha nuts if space is limited.

Canoe,

Are the LAPP ones like RS sell under their own brand, nickel plated brass with a sleeve that slides up under the braid?

I used to use the GXD type in the saw mills as this gave additional mechanical strength to the gland so when they ripped the cable off the machine it would rip the whole enclosure etc. apart so they would then have to get something done, rather than just leave the inner cores showing with holes letting the dust in!

Also when I got the repair, there was more money in it, i.e. cable perhaps, gland perhaps, enclosure perhaps etc. etc.! ;)

Yep Canoe those sound like them.

I have used them in PG sizes, but tended/tend to use GXD's in wood environments due to the abuse, plus they are IP67+ rated, i.e. Ex approved, so the keep the dust out and they are cheap, once you get the knack they are not too bad to terminate.

Yes it was Chenn77.

links would be good,

or, instead of a sample could you not scan one then I can print it using my new 3d printer Deke sold me.! :D

that reminds me, he did say it needed a fill of liquid brass before it would work...

For those of us that don't use SY very often .... (It would have been SWA if I'd done that job!) ....

I assume a GXD gland works similar to the way an SWA gland does on SWA? and I guess its considered rough to bunch the screen into a few pigtails and slide into 4mm earth sleeving and terminate that way... :innocent

Must admit i haven't had must experience of SY i would probably use SWA too and as for pigtailing them yes that would be as rough as Badgers coffin, think you need to use the correct thing.
