Anyone suggest a good site?

Making up the roller system for my leccy gates and I went a borrowed the neighbouring farmer's lathe. I was only drilling out 26mm OD nylon bar. Anyway, I managed to dislodge the chuck key off the top of the lathe where it was balanced on a pile of assorted junk and as it fell it enaged the screw cutting lever. Managed to kill the power just as the tool touched the chuck!

So for a start I need to get him some cutting tips. Triangular things with 6 cutting faces seemingly. New to me as when I was at college you just had to sharpen up a bit of tool steel on the grinder:

Has "LC-250" written on the tool holder bit if that helps.

Cheers

Mmm...  can't help...

But just in case anyone says....

"lathe tools are not the sort of thing electricians do..

and there is no specialist lathe tool sub forum...

so you had better go and ask on a specialist forum"...

Ignore them!

Its always interesting to read questions and answers on other subjects...

Cheers all. Found a nice chap on the dreaded eBay who seeems to know his stuff. Ordered some Kennametal Carbide Inserts from him. The neighbour's happy - said he got the last lot from eBay himself. Still, I managed to get the homemade roller assembly in. I "tyred" some 26mm dia nylon bar with some reinforced hose that fitted a treat. Hoping it will be nice and quiet. Will eventually comprise of st/st plates with 16mm dia shafts, again st/st. Just to get things moving (literally) I've used a couple of BZP M12 bolts and made the "plates" from a couple of bits of 18mm formica faced ply:

Got the indexable cutting inserts no problem. Just got to source the "shim" that sits over the pin. The insert gets sandwiched between this shim and the wedge clamp above. Trying the links given above. Cheers. Scoobed etc.

Sorted...........well that was an expensive "borrow" of a lathe.

Bought 5 cutting inserts initially at £13.

Then found that I needed a "shim". Could only get these in packs of 10 at circa £1.80 ea +VAT + P&P. Ended up buying a good, second hand, complete tool for £25 again plus VAT & P&P from these people:

Still got a few feelers out, no doubt someone will come back shortly offering a single shim for £1 with free P&P but I'm conscious that I broke it and owe my neighbour etc so needed to sort it out.

Must get my own lathe. Always borrowing this guy's or my bro in laws!!!
