What you suggest to use LED 12V with driver or just LED 230V? I don't care about price at the moment.

LED with drivers can be less bulky than 230v versions, and each type would have an application for use.

High powered LED,s are very expensive, a recent national retailer installed an outlet with LED,s and the lighting is outstanding.(and cheap to run).

Payback on installation costs and maintenance is about 2.57 years, with a lifetime installation value of almost treble the initial outlay.

i use the 12v systems.

no real reason other than I use alot of other LED's systems(which require 12v dc)

I reckon I will have paid back my 10 LEDs in my kitchen in less than a year easy.

3w and more light than standard 50w halogen,

if I remember tomorrow I'll try find out what the light range is, they are very very good,

took me ages to find something I was happy with, about 10 different types.

as far as I know 3w LED = 25w-35w halogen, but looks brighter

Are you serious Steptoe, 3w giving more light than a 50w halogen??

LED'S are good, but they ain't that good, ....YET!! There still in the development stage as far as light output is conserned. Even the lamp manufacturers will tell you that at this time, they are not a direct replacement for incandescent or energy saving light bulbs.

But foresee that this will be the case in the next 2 years or so. They basically are saying, that the present LED technology is presently good for accent, mood and feature lighting requirements.... Not general lighting.

You are almost on the button, recent developments have shown that LED is at the forefront of advances in technology, 3w LED are almost prehistoric with the recent advances.

More common now for general lighting is 9w LED but for specialised applications there are even more powerfull mains fed LED. Unfortunately price makes most applications out of reach to most people.

I'd be very interested in the make/model steps.

I have 6 GU10's in my kitchen and they're hopeless!

Im not saying they are ACTUALLY brighter,

just a better spectrum of light,

give me ten mins, I'll go pop one out. see if there is a reference on it,

Aggie threw the box out that I was keeping as a reference to get some more.
