Hi,

I understand the really old dimmer switches worked by reducing voltage so an extractor fan wouldnt run correctly if dimmed too much ? But would a lewding/trailing edge dimmer work with switched live to fan and the fan run nicely.

Havent come across this before so wanted any advice from you pros

cheers guys

is it a timer fan?

some of those only use the switched live as a trigger if I understand correctly, so a dimmer 'may' not affect them the same,

I really dont know tho tbh, I never fit dimmers on fans for the possible issues that may arise.

Must admit I have always told people you can't have a dimmer if a fan is fitted but as steps says this probably is incorrect as the fan gets its power from permanent live. Learnt that on this forum marvellous things forums.
