I don't think the technoligy for light output is there yet and kitchens need to be bright but I am probably talking rubbish.

i've a lot of recent experience on this.... tried loads of types, cfl's and led's, for a customer with 26 spotlights in a large kitchen.....they're all crap, (as in nowhere near a 50w halogen)...and you just get complaints about them...not bright enough.......

also you need to know the depth of bulb the fitting will accept too... most of the 'new' bulbs are 76mm...( old 50watt halogens are around 53 mm) and i reckon most existing holders won't take the extra length.

i do know if you fit 140mm holders, ( i recently got 140mm's from screwfix,

i take, and agree, with your point batty... i, personally, would've accepted some of the cfl's i fitted for this customer.... but she wouldn't...just had me ordering new ones to try... all about

try any 11w cfl's (they're a fancy name for a curly flourescent in a gu10 format) paul.... about

I guess that Lurch is on about the thread duplication function that Admin added not so long ago,,, although I can't be certain as Lurch's link doesn't work..

Regards LED GU10... I saw a 3x6w Aurora one in the wholesalers the other week and it was very bright, although it did have a narrower beam than dichlorics.... also cost

what's your point lurch? .... i was just expressing my humble opinion...
Wasn't directed at you, I posted and never checked the thread.

I don't understand this post.
I see where the confusion comes into it now and have amended the original post accordingly.

lurch. you said you have used good and bad, what makes should i get/avoid
Now I'm confused, I need to read some other threads for context cos it's now just all over the shop.

I was, and the link does work. ;)

No it don't, well it does, but you have to login again in order to see the thread ;)
Sure that's a forum\your PC\cookie issue. I have no such troubles.

hello chaps, customer wants LED downlights in kitchen, i have not fitted them before and i was just wondering if they are anygood, and if any makes are recomended.

thanks
i have been in houses where they have changed every other 50W GU10 to LED. no idea how practical it is, but may be of use?
