There ,s some interesting stuff about  but I don't think any of it has been out long enough for anyone to form an opinion  TBH .    Not  a minor problem if they start carping out and  its a tower to reach  them .

There was some interesting fittings at the last Coventry  show .   Forgot the make  TBH ... I remember that you could control each one individually by pointing a remote at it  , dim it  or put it in a power save state.

I don't even know who the market leaders are in LED lighting  ....  seem to be  loads of makes you've never heard of .

Just had a look at what Denmans are selling ,  Eterna , which is sometimes good , sometimes not so good .   They show a linear  Low bay 12,200 lumens  @ £161  or a circular High Bay  18000 Lu   @ £239.80  .

Not trying to worry you  but we were caught out by fitting HF twin fluorescents  at one of the printers .   Lighting trunking above the presses , about 20 fittings . One run was Crompton  the other Fitzgerald  .  We were told it was the way to go ,  HF  , can't beat it ,  no one is fitting the old style ballast fittings now.    Before the guarantee periods were out they started crapping out ...the customer wasn't pleased , we were embarrassed .

We didnt realise that if one tube fails  the fitting shuts off .

Then the HF control gear started to fail ...both makes used  the same gear and they are only as good as the control gear .    I think it was the Tridonics that were failing  and  we were replacing with Helvar .

Did I read there was a  retro fit LED lamp for 400ws  ?

reliability is an issue. been looking around but ill be recommending keeping the halides for now. for how much itll cost compared to potential savings etc, along with long term maintenance. £20 for a new 400w lamp vs hundreds for a new LED when it pops

An option would be to suggest , instead of replacing a dud lamp ...replace with an LED  version .

Thats what I do with the printing firm now ...although they are not High Bay .

I take Binky's point with Phillips  ...I would  tend to trust the brand   .

but you are missing the point, it's not just the energy saving , it's the cost of labour saving as well, how much is changing a lamp costing? I also have to say it's bad work for us, changing lamps is money for old rope, if you convert to LED you are reducing fuure work...

they have their own cherry picker so cost of replacing lamps is not much compared to some sites

I'm afraid , as with most advances , they  reduce the need for labour .   Computers have emptied offices of all the admin staff and reduced the need for printers .

At the printer I look after ,   when the tubes go now I'm instructed to replace the fitting with LED .
