SAFE INSOLLATION PROCEDURE

barrier tape area

select voltage indicator

verify voltage indicator with proven unit

turn off isolator

lock off insulator

keep key

test incoming tails

line - Neutral, Earth-Line, Earth- Neutral

verify voltage indicator with proven unit

VISUAL INSPECTION

check DB visual

check lighting circuit visual

take lamp holder cover off

check ring circuit visual

remove one socket cover

check motor circuit visual

remove starter cover

check commando socket visual

check RCD visual

remove Garage DB cover

check light circuit visual

check single socket visual

check Shower circuit

take cover off shower

check main bonding earth

check supplementary bonding - shake it baby

DEAD TESTS

CPC CONTINUITY TEST

select low resistance ohms meter

select 20 ohms

select auto null

auto null the tester

put temporary link into ET

remove line from circuit breaker situated on the left

put line into temporary link with ET

go to farer point of that circuit (lamp holder)

test between earth terminal and switching conductor

put value in R1 + R2 on test sheet

test switch is working and tick polarity on test sheet

remove temporary link and go to next circuit

take line of the next circuit and connect it to temporary link

go to farer point of that circuit

measure between earth and functional line conductor

record the result

test switch and tick polarity

remove link and go to next circuit (commando socket)

put 16A plug into commando socket

test at connector block earth-line

operate switch and put R1+R2 result and tick polarity

go to motor circuit

put line into temporary link with ET

measure between earth and line conductor

operate switch and put R1+R2 result and tick polarity

replace line back into circuit breaker

go to next circuit (garage RCD)

carry on R2 test only - test between ET's (don

Hi,

Two things (There may be more), but these are common misconceptions:

..........go to next circuit (single socket)put line into temporary link with ET

test between line and earth by using plug socket

put down R1+R2 value and tick polarity
This won't confirm polarity on your single-socket circuit, even if you throw the switch..........you could have a Line - CPC swap.

RING CIRCUIT TEST

go to DB take out every circuit from ring circuit

separate legs of ring final circuit

test continuity of line - line, neutral-neutral, CPC-CPC

connect line of one leg with neutral of second

connect line of second with neutral of first - use connector blocks

test between connectors

use a test plug and check every socket between line and neutral

all socket must be switched on

take out neutrals and connect CPC's

test between connectors

test every sockets by using test plug between line and CPC

check polarity of socketsrecord highest value, tick polarity

put the covers back, left shower cover and motor cover open
No need to check polarity of sockets as 'polarity' is confirmed on completion of the three stages of the 'Ring Final' tests. ;)

Also I would press the test button on the rcd before I carry out tests because if the rcd is faulty your going to throw 150ma through the circuit causing a dangerous situation... Not good....Just how I would do it.

NO NO NO NO

the test button is the last RCD test you carry out.!!!!!!!!!!

BTW. how are you putting 150mA through any circuit?

the RCD is tested with NO loads connected.

Deffo agree with Steps here

RCD testing should be carried out in the following order (with circuits isolated) if it fails a single test then it should not be excercised until it passes

1x at 0 and then 180 deg

5x at 0 and then 180 deg

Ramp (if your tester has this function)

Manual - press the button

1/2x

Again, and I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT excercise the RCD to get it to pass any test,,,, in real life you will not get a second chance!

Revising this at the moment so glad to see it up in different words with a good debate behind certain steps, i've found a write up hereFault3 - Electrical inspection, testing & fault finding.and i've found a few problems with that. Can one of the more experienced members on here please tell me if this write up of procedure steps is accurate enough to use for my own revision? Thanks.

Yes I have the OSG in front of me now, i was just looking for a pre-typed up breakdown for the testing process. Although it's already in my OSg was looking for something a little easier to read. Cheers.

NL.

I would never recommend using descriptions from "other" websites to learn I&T because the C&G exams are quite specific with regard to their terminology.
