My last job of the day today was to attend to an RCD which tripped every time the lighting circuit was energised.

After splitting the circuit a couple of times I homed in on a large light fitting in the upstairs bedroom. When I started to undo the bottom locking nut water started to pour out of the fitting so I grabbed a bucket, dropped the fitting and poured approximately 1 pint of water into the bucket !.

Thinking there was a roof leak the homeowner jumped into the loft but came back down puzzled saying the loft insulation and plasterboard above the light was bone dry !. I also went up there to have a look and sure enough no sign of water whatsoever !. I double checked it was the right light.

I cannot think of a logical explanation for this ! does anybody have any ideas about how all that water could have got there ?.

Thanks in advance for any input :)

Rev,

You're the God Botherer, surely you already know the answer!

He does work in mysterious ways, ways us mere mortals can only guess at.

Apart from that I can think of no explanation. It's a puzzler.

It could very well be a font in disquise Amen!!

Dripped onto the cable from height and tracked into the fitting? :C
Cheers for that - I ran this idea through my head too.... but I had to peel back 2 layers of loft insulation to get above the light... so I cannot see how that could happen. It's so weird.

Has the room been decorated recently and has a steam stripper been used mate?

Thanks guys, the bizarre thing is that everything- loft insulation, joists, plasterboard - above this light fitting was absolutely 100% bone dry.

Safedepth.... hmmmm yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees maybe it's a sign !..... but what could it mean ?.... :)

It means you are destined for greater things, have you ever heard the term "The Chosen One". That's right, you will be the next manager of Chelsea when they sack the ex Porto boss in 6 months because he failed to win the world cup!!!

Rodent P*ss
So not drinking water then.

Condensation from a split bathroom or shower room vent pipe?

Loft insulation is funny stuff, it can look and feel dry when it's not. And if by chance it's foil backed plasterboard, the water won't soak into it, and it won't look wet. As soon as the condensation has stopped dripping, and the water all drained into the light fitting, all could well look dry. (guess how I know this)

The water was fairly clear with bits in it ! I like the condensation idea--- yeeees maybe that was it !. I did'nt ask the owner if someone had been using a steam stripper in there BUT the bathroom was next door.
