Lighting fault

Here's one for you.

Just been (3 hrs ago) out to a domestic property no upstairs lighting & mcb will reset but trips intermittantly even though the lights are not working.

Got into loft (pendants shoved up there with ikea fittings in the rooms) to try and trace supply conductor, nothing found.

Reset mcb got back in loft to check voltage at the tv booster...nothing...but heard SNAP SNAP SNAP just like a fly killer, then bang mcb trips......I move some insulation where I heard the snapping........I've never seen so many f***ing wasps & I've never got down from a loft in one jump before (I missed the steps out all together).....

The nest has encased the cable & all I can think is the cable has over heated & gone bang inside the nest (they produce alot of heat apparently) & the snapping is wasps getting fried on the live end...

Untill the pest lads have done their stuff the circuit is off & I wont be venturing up to sort the fault.

By the way was the lighting circuit protected by a BEE type breaker ?

mate of mine investigating fault on driveway lighting found short circuit caused by ants nest. fitting full of damp soil. fitting not adequately sealed at base. another interesting case. you couldn't make them up!
