i am having to wire up a relay for some outdoor lighting. the control unit can only switch 24watts.

i am having some issues trying to wire up the relay contractor. could some one please help me out with a wiring diagram.

I have the control switch, - the lighting wired in parallel, - plus an additional 230v power feed.

thank you for any help that you can give me.

it is for some courtesy lights needed for when the electric gates open..

the client has decided to add additional lights, too many for the control gate to operate..

As Andy says , Matt, does the gate operator put out a voltage across the output terminals ? If it does you need a relay with a coil of that voltage .

If the output is "clean" , as my learned collegue says , it is just closing a contact which has no supply on it, you would switch your lights through those terminals .

(Sorry to double up , just thought I'd go a bit deeper) ;)
