How sad is it that this will NEVER get made in England! We'll develop the tech then it'll go overseas or well end up going into partnership with the French or Germans etc and end up making the wings. We should do it on our own here, create jobs and restore a bit of pride. Then stick two fingers up at the Europeans, Yanks and the rest of them! Dare say I'll be extradited for posting this! Long live the 51st State.

And don't mention Spitfires! It seems the government has waived it's rights to the couple of dozen plus possibly mint examples that have just uncovered in Burma. Just imagine the civic pride it would instill, number of kids it would inspire to see a squadron of the things over England again!

Back to the vino collapso!

Watched a programme on sky about this engine the other month. Whilst very impressive and the opportunities are endless for such an engine, I suspect that it may never be used commercially as it would almost diminish the airlines as we know them. Why do you think the Concorde technology was never capitalised upon?

It will however be one up to the yanks, in space travel. You never know sky might use such a vehicle to film the yanks trying to blow up the moon!!

This story isn't new per se, must have been 15 years ago that a space plane type project called HOTOL was proposed but the government seemingly got cold feet then and wouldn't stump up the readys. One of the guys involved, Alan Bond set up Reaction Engines. Think I read something few years about Japan being interested in the tech....................

It was a bit of a sickener to see our big cross channel hovercraft fleet stop running a while back. To think, the American military continue to make great use of them, another design by an Englishman. Nice though to see OUR emergency services using them for flood rescue in the West country with all these floods at least!

this concept has been around since I was an apprentice for BAe. If it ever comes to fruition I'll be surprised, unless they can make operating costs low enough....

be great if they did, think about day trip to OZ..... then again maybe not :^O

To be fair we only get fed info when they like, who knows what system they are on now as for years they denied that the "Aurora" exsists and still to this day they deny it, even though they have been using it for over 20 years.

The stealth only came out by mistake and they just couldnt deny it any longer with the media coverage but that was in service for decade.

For an island we have some incredible inventors and scientists but this country is just too dear to make business happen anymore :Blushing

We are just turning into a massive storage/picking depot importing cheap goods with light industry its tragic
