I have just upgraded my av amp and 5.1 speakers .

Some of the leads to the satellite speakers will need to be changed. They are to short .

What is best value/performance 2.5 mm

79 Strand is fine for most, or QED 16/2 if you want something to cable in the wall etc

Most people could not tell the difference between 42 or 79 strand

If you wish to improve the sound then spend your money on better speakers

Many use bog standard twin and earth for this and have excellent results.
Not something I'd recommend as could be confused as live cabling, do we want Joe Public getting into bad habits by connecting speakers with LV cable :|

Why should that be a 'bad habit'? Why not use it for that?

Not my idea - has been suggested on here before:

Some of the best cheap speaker cable is 2.5 t&e (without the e)Ian.
Good practical speaker cable for domestic installations:2.5mm T&E, 2.5mm flexible, 1.5mm T&E, 1.5mm flexible.

If you have a REALLY BIG amp and speakers to match, then go up to 4mm or 6mm, but I doubt the difference will be noticable in a domestic environment.

Still a bad idea IMHO

If they can ban Banana plugs because muppets in Europe might plug them into the Shuko sockets, I just would not recommend using T&E for the very same reasons, particularly as there are plenty of inexpensive cables that exist for speakers and are perfectly adequate

Richer Sounds are pretty cheap for reasonable quality speaker cable.
