Hi, Anyone out there know what qualifications/experience is required to be a lv authorised person? Also what does this entail is it technical as the name suggests or long winded way of saying someone who has read the safe isolation procedure?

Reason I ask is I am looking at a job within NHS and they mention this.

Many thanks for your anticipated help. Please be gentle with me if you are an LVAP and I have just insulted you!

Never heard of such a thing TBH . Is it some stupid Yuppie -Speak for an Electrician?

Low voltage range , also stupidly, goes up to 1000V.

Yes I just checked ..... Electricians are now to be called ....Low Voltage Approved Manual Operatives.

Is it just some designation made up by the NHS?

In a previous employment, I used to be a SAPE (Senior Authorised Person Electrical)

The NHS have certain guidelines and any person who works on the LV side of any installation will be an authorised LV electrician.

It is more of a register of suitable qualified people than extra qualifications, however you will be expected to work to the HTM 06-02 part a and b, and MEIGaN regulations, most of these are in house training. It is always very high on health and safety, so permits to work will always be required, as will having to sign out your lock off kit, isolation notices and your rubber mat.

If you work on any HV stuff then you will need to be qualified and the range of courses are from about

I was a LV AP at one time, the course was two weeks, with a written exam and a practical switching exercise, you have to remember an AP answers to the Authorising Engineer and submit A detailed switching program prior to carrying out the actual work, not just a case of safe isolation. if you don't pass the course the unfortunately you can't be an AP

Hello Pete10001, this is an old thread from July 2012, the op has probably found an answer by now.  (thread now closed)
