Scenario : old lady in Wiltshire, living alone with no local family. RCD has tripped.

Calls electrician who spends less than 1 hour onsite before telling her that her plug in oven is faulty.

Charges:

£40 call out
£185.00 less 5% discount for pensioner

So about £225 for less than 1 hours work

Scumbag

My fee would have been £60.00

Thieving criminal would be more correct!

I know of an electrician who added £400 to the bill of a near blind 86 yr old because she was living in the property during a rewire that he considered to be 'a pain in the arse', there are some shameful people out there

I always feel bad when charging one's. It's usually the ones who stand there with their purses waiting to pay you who are struggling.

The amount of times I've turned up unplugged the fridge/freezer/washing machine and then reset the rcd and said you need a new one it ridiculous. I have a rule now if I don't get my tools out of the van then I don't charge.

I find most people will give you £20 for fuel if you don't charge.

I know I could be making a loss but at least I can sleep at night.
