I firmly believe that PIR's are going to become more of an income source over the next few years as more and more insurance companies insist on electrical inspections across the commercial / industrial & domestic arenas.

Now we all know how estate agents don't quite grasp the concept or the finer details but what about businesses? Does anyone have any marketing info that they use to promote PIR's to shop owners, landlords etc etc? I am looking to create something myself as I think it will be an area that my business will focus on in more detail but naturally, don't want to re-invent the wheel and wondered if anyone has anything they can suggest / put forward or indeed, something that they already use. I will then look at it, use the best bits in addition to my own marketing gumpf and hopefully the results will be something eminently useable and prove a useful tool for those kind enough to volunteer info.

Cirrus,

I have an excerpt from an insurance co policy (large well know co.) the small print with regard to their requirements for PIR's.

This is also the way I want to go, crawling around in muck wiring things up is not my idea of fun anymore!

Another source of info would be the ESC info & the HSE documents wrt PUWER98 & EAWR89 & some of their on line stuff wrt electricity.

Would be very handy to have the small print Sidewinder. Any chance you could email it?

Cirrus you need to be aware of the specialist testing companies. I've spent quite a bit of time researching this lately as I've been asked to do a fair amount of PIR's.

They go around expecting their guys to test around 70 circuits per day and charge customers between

Its definately become price driven and as said there are the flyby companies doing it at silly prices.

You really can't compete with this type of work if you want to carry the I&T correctly.

I recall doing some subbing - PIR's for an NICEIC company that had an agreed deal to carry out a 50% visual, 50% testing contract with one of the large Banks. Another national company had previous held the contract for a number of years........( company ending with ..silon).

It soon became obvious to me that there was a pattern that had been created over the years. 50% of the circuits that could be found were the ones tested and the ones not tested were labelled NV, unable to trace etc.

It mean't that although the reports stated NV, unable to trace, circuits had been left on with no testing carried out for a period in some case 15 years +!!

I often relay the same story to potential clients who obviously have no real idea of what is involved or what service they are paying for.

Its a good idea to try and obtain a copy of a poor report to keep to show to your customers so they can see where they stand.
