Ok

Home teams winning write the following %ages

50 matches & 22 home team wins, show this as a %age

Now I've done it this way

22 x 100 = 2200

2200/50

=44%

All the daughter keeps saying is we've not been taught that way....... thats fine but what ever way she has been taught she cant do anyway.

She is key stage 2, so if your kids are at that stage in maths let me know what method they are using to teach.

Kids nowadays are taught the most un-logical ways on earth! I've helped my little sister with her homework before, she understood it perfectly, but the teacher wants the working out the way they showed not the normal way.

The may teach, You win 22 out of 50 so 22/50=0.44 x 100 to get your percentage.

firstly surely the kids are taught that percentage values are out of 100 ??

therefore

22/50 both are doubled to get it to 100

44/100 = 44%

Cheers chaps

Have found out they are doing it as per Sellers method.

Thanks for the link oldtimespark, didnt think of going to BBC site.

Just glad I could remember how I was taught :pray

As for my daughter well she's at ...... bad day explode ..... stage now:x

That's how I was taught @ school and how I would work it out now! (I can do the X 100 in my head ;) )

As would I. The first method looked overly complex when I first read it.
