Hi all

I am thinking of buying (or dropping hints as its my birthday in a couple of weeks) a Megger DCM320 as my first ever test instrument, it tests for AC/DC volts, current, continuity and resistance up to 20 Mohms. All for what seems like a quite reasonable price.  Has anyone tried one or know of a better equivalent?

Cheers

Reasonable piece of kit, but, it will not do all of the tests required by BS7671, and that includes the insulation resistance remember, even though it measures up to 20M :eek:hms  , it does not do this at the required test voltage.

Thanks dudes. I am only a new trainee so I don't require an MFT yet, I just need something for Volts and Continuity mainly. Having just looked over the spec again I have realised it doesn't measure DC, which although I haven't worked on before it could be handy to have in the future. I might look at the Kewtech KT203 instead.

Hello Tommy, According to the data sheet on our forum sponsors page the 320 does do DC http://isswww.co.uk/datasheets/DCM310_DCM320_DS_en_V03.pdf. I would suggest you ring or PM our sponsor megger mark, http://talk.electricianforum.co.uk/user/4583-megger-mark/  and/or check their website, http://isswww.co.uk/ He will be able to answer exactly what it does or doesn't do. And he may have recommendations for a better spec or cheaper item to meet your needs. As you say it is primarily for general testing, fault finding etc. and not for formal electrical certificate test readings, then I am sure there could be other options available.

Oh yeah so it does! Trying to read through some of the technical specifications is a right brain fart! I will look at the Amprobe meter too as it does seem to offer a little more.

Cheers guys.
