Hi,

When you buy cable for meter tails, do you buy it on a roll or seperate 1m lengths? and how much is it roughly for a roll?

Cheers

I tend to buy in 3 or 5m lengths, I think that 1m lengths have a bit of waste,

house 1 = 1/2 m

house 2 = 1m

house 3 = 1&1/2m

house 4 = 2m

imagine just buying 1m lengths...

I always buy 50 mtr rolls last ages that way and not so much waste but quite a bit of tie up of cash. Bdc used to do 25 mtr rolls which is a handy size not sure if anybody else does that size.

I used to use 25m drums from the local wholesalers, quite a common drum size for tails I think. I used to buy it in drums when I did loads of commercial work as the tails lengths could be anything from 300mm to 2m depending on the job so the offcuts were quite considerable on some. Tend to buy what I need ATM, but mainly because it's so damn expensive, I'd have to sell some drills or a car to stock up on drums of tails now!

Normally price a tail pack into the job if needed.

3m Brown

3m Blue

3m 16mm Earth

I only buy what I need , so a simple CU change buy 1 mtr of each.If wiring a housing estate, buy drum.

At my wholesaler a pack with 3m Bro, 3m Bu, 3 m 16mm GY is

I go with Steps on this one, I buy 5 or 10m lengths, strangely I always end up with one more than the other :)

If you buy 1m at a time you will lose quite a bit with cut offs, that if you bought 5m would not be wasted.

Going through my records I have bought 10m of tails in this last month, and I am going to buy another 5 tommoro(sat), so I would guess that this month it would be 15m in total.

If I was to buy it by the drum it would last forever I suppose, and seeing how copper goes up and down how would you know that you bought it at the right price.

My advise 5m or 10m is the best way to buy, less waste.
